SIA - some pics

Well, it's over for 2010 ... my first time at SIA. I attended as guest artist for Brandcorp, who distribute Francheville and Martha Stewart products (to name a few).


Here is a pic of the high tea table on our stand. I used the Francheville Cutie Pie range to create these little goodies. Our real cupcakes were topped with Wilton icing and Martha Stewart glitter, and the little green bunny was crochet'd using Milford Threads (another Brandcorp product). The little topiary was my class piece, and I am also teaching it at Erina Scrapbook Store in June.

I was absolutely thrilled to meet some great store owners, as well as other teachers at SIA. Highlights were getting together with the incredibly talented Mandi-Lee Klinger (a Copic marker QUEEN!), having Becky Fleck (best sketches EVER) sitting in on one of my make & take sessions, and meeting the divine Heidi Swapp.

To all those who came to visit me at the Brandcorp stand, a great big thank you for making my show so great. A double thankyou to my scrappers in shining armour who rescued me from the wrong end of Homebush Bay :D Keep watching this space as I put up projects from the High Tea table over coming days.

Too cute to be allowed!

I recently stumbled upon this beautiful Etsy store whilst searching for something in the same category, but entirely different! Called 'Hair Sew Vintage', the lovely Heather has some stunning creations in her store. My purchase was Haydn Hare, and I paid late Tuesday night, the pattern was waiting in my inbox when I awoke on Wednesday, and I finished my first little bunny Thursday morning. Sure ... she's not traditional colours, but who cares?? LOL I have used Milford threads with a 2.5mm hook, and my little bunny stands 14cm tall. The heart is made using a tutorial on another fave blog 'Little Birdie Secrets'.

We're renovating!

We've been in our lovely Central Coast home for almost 3 years now. Sure, it didn't tick every single box on our wish list, but it did tick the major one ... NO RENOVATIONS REQUIRED! It had been newly carpeted, tiled, painted, extended, and even though it only had 1 bath & 3 beds, we had to have it.

Three years later, though, I have a pre-teen who needs more room in her room. So we took action on my mother's brilliant idea to knock out a wall and push dd#1's room into dd#2's room (which is huge). So the builder arrived yesterday, and here is the result. The walls will be finished on Monday, then the wardrobe modules will be installed after Easter. I figure it's time to do a little makeover in the bedrooms too, so a bit of decorating will be in order. Yay!

SIA 2010 here I come!

What is SIA? It stands for Scrapbooking Industry Australia, and it's a fabulous trade show that is on for 2 glorious days. 4-5 May 2010 at Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush. I will be there with Brandcorp, showing the people some new ideas with Francheville, Martha Stewart and Easy Peasy ranges, just to name a few.

The theme of the show is 'What if .....', and I can't wait to unveil our stand. Needless to say, I'm going to be a very busy girl for the next few weeks. I have started to learn how to make origami flowers ... this is from the Francheville 'Passionate' range of papers ... and it's just the beginning!

There are going to be lots of amazing artists there, and I'm more than a bit excited to see my name in the company of such royalty. You can read more about it at the SIA blog ... click here.

Dyslexia, how you vex me so!

My youngest dd is dyslexic, in year 3, and struggling badly. Thank goodness for Intrepica! This is an Australian website with short, appropriate level exercises. It's colourful, fun and affordable. If you have a child struggling with phonic learning, I encourage you to check it out. There's a 7 day free trial. Best of all the kids earn points & coins as they work, and then they can use the coins to dress up their avatar or play games.

New Princess

It was really nice to take a day out from designing for others, and just painting something for myself. I had forgotten how much fun this little girl is to paint! Now I'm working on some art diary covers featuring her royal pointy-shoe-ness, and they'll be for sale at the Quilt & Craft Show at Darling Harbour, Sydney in June.
